I have been reading so many great articles about how to get organized for back-to-school! The pre-school we chose is a cooperative school, meaning that parents assist in the classroom, serve as coordinators for different activities and participate a number of hours in other areas such as fundraising, cleaning and maintenance, and field-trips. I was feeling pretty overwhelmed when the e-mails starting coming fast and furious last week and all of a sudden I needed 6+ days of morning week-day child care for my daughter this fall. I guess it isn’t just kids who need a schedule adjustment, but do parents too! As a parent, how am I going to manage all of these obligations and everything else? Here is how I am planing my back-to-school schedule.
A month ago I wrote about my change of perspective about finances. You can find my posts here, here, and here. Viewing a recent talk show, I was affirmed that I had been hiding behind things…stuff, to show others I was successful in life, worth something, and someone to like. I sat there on the sofa and knew in my heart that I am more than just my belongings and that experiencing life is more than material things. I am working to shed all that extra “stuff”, become more conscious about what and how I consume, be aware of what values my children see me living, and to become debt free. In essence get back to a simple life like so many of you out there in the blog world are doing so wonderfully.
Here is a quick tip post to start your organizing week out on the right foot….
5 Ways I Use Bins to Organize at Home
Organize your plastic baggies of frozen fresh herbs and zests in a small plastic bin. This way they don’t slide around in your freezer!

Monday I wrote about Budgeting…It’s a Philosophy, and how I have changed my perspective about shopping, saving, and consumption. Yesterday, I wrote about starting our Journey Toward Being Debt-Free and how I figured out that in four short years we could pay down more than $177,000 of debt (and interest) to totally wipe out our second mortgage. Today, I wanted to share with you a few of the resources and money-saving methods I have picked up along the way that will help our family achieve our goal of getting to a debt-free life. So, visit www.organizing-life.com to find out how I am planning to get to a debt-free life.
Today, I have a different priority and that is to become DEBT-FREE. I actually calculated it last night and found that over the next four years (if we can actually employ this change in our spending) we can pay down more than $170,000 in debt. IN JUST 4 YEARS WE CAN GET RID OF MORE THAN $177,000 IN DEBT!! Visit www.organizing-life.com to find out how I figured out this number.
What is productivity? To be productive is to accomplish the most important tasks in a timely manner, adequately and beautifully. In my life I see four major productivity busters: my learning disabilities, perfectionism; multi-tasking; and trying to keep up with the Joneses. Maybe you see some of these inhibitors in your life too. Visit www.organizing-life.com to read more about how I cope with these productivity busters.
Do you have that junk drawer that holds just about everything? Unlike a pantry, this space doesn’t have a single purpose so it can quickly become a tangled mess. I call my miscellaneous mess my Everything Drawer and it is a dumping ground for all the things we need in a pinch, extras, and the things that have no home. Here is how I organize my Everything Drawer and some tips on how to organize your junk drawer.
Yesterday I wrote about saving your money in your freezer. Here is a printable version of the mini-recipes that you can simply stick in your recipe binder for easy reference! Enjoy and Happy Organizing!
How frustrating is it to throw out food that has gone bad, or that is left over but is not enough for the next recipe? It is like throwing cash in the trash! With these food saving tricks, you literally can save your money in your freezer.
As promised, here is a free printable food expiration guide. Print it out, laminate it, punch a hole in the top and hang it in your pantry area for easy reference when you are sorting through and throwing away food past its prime! Additionally, here is a cosmetic expiration guide you can print and keep in your cleaning tote carrier, or hang it inside your vanity or medicine cabinet door for easy reference.

thank you for stopping by my blog I am a 30-something mom to a 3 1/2 year old son and 2 year old daughter, and a wife to my life wonderful. I write in this space when my crafty inspiration strikes or when I get to pondering about how we can better connect with the earth around us. We are a family surviving the suburbs, contending with commercialism, and getting to a greener lifestyle. Welcome! ~Abbie
