Spring Cleaning the Master Bedroom

It is Day 9 of the Spring Cleaning Party at SimpleMom.net. We are nearing the end of our 10 day cleaning party, and I have to say the encouragement from my readers and fellow spring cleaning partiers, Tsh at Simple Mom, and Mandi at Organizing Your Way has been overwhelming, and I feel like I have accomplished so much in the past two weeks. Thank you so much for your comments and support.

The master bedroom is always the last room in my home to get some attention. You can see this quite clearly in the fact that there is NOTHING on the walls, (except that one painting my grandmother painted that I don’t know where to put.) I have big plans to paint the walls a soft sage green with chocolate brown faux wainscoting, install brown/red bamboo headboard on the wall flanked by iron candle sconces, and a hang a portrait mural with low shelving above the low dresser. Oh, and Jumpy the fish is moving out. But, *sigh* like Tsh said, parents usually come last. The task I need to finish first is installing the crown moulding in the kids’ rooms. Anyway, after you get over the shocking starkness of the grey box that equals my master bedroom, you can take a look at my mess. I hadn’t yet changed out our winter clothing with our summer clothes so there were piles everywhere. Laundry is piling up because my husband is away on travel and he usually does the washing. And, there is just random stuff everywhere because we have kids. Take a peek at the good, bad, and the ugly!

Here are a couple of ways I like to fold clothing.

I hate dress socks because they are slippery, so they always come unraveled. But I didn’t want to turn the ankle part inside-out because that stretches them too much, so I wrap them.

sock-tutorial

  • Place one on top of the other.
  • Fold them in half lengthwise.
  • Hold the toe with your thumb and forefinger, and wrap the sock around your fingers twice. (Up and over.)
  • And tuck the ends through the middle of the roll (left to right). Slip your fingers out and you have a neat little sock roll that will not unravel and will not stretch out your socks.
  • I have a lot of tank tops for the humid summers here in Virginia and I don’t like it when they slip around in my drawer.  So I roll them.

    tank-tutorial

  • Lay the tank front-side down. Fold the top at the chest. And then fold in half lengthwise.
  • Then roll up and place the rolls in my drawer. They stack nicely too.
  • Before I had kids, my clothing was neatly pressed, folded perfectly, arranged by garment type, color, pattern, and fabric. After kids, I just throw stuff in a heap on the floor in the corner.

How are you Spring Cleaning Partiers feeling at day-9? Tired, inspired, stressed because you have skipped a day, frustrated because you don’t have the containers you want to organize , feeling ‘ugh’ because you don’t like scrubbing? (Or ,are you like me and feeling itchy because you REALLY want a laminating machine for all these great spring cleaning organizing/labeling projects, and have been dropping hints for your husband like crazy because your birthday is coming up? ) Leave a comment for me and for others and let us know how you are feeling! You are almost there! One more day of cleaning to go!
