I can’t believe I made it to the end of week 1 of Simple Mom’s Spring Cleaning Party. It hasn’t been easy. I don’t like cleaning. I don’t like scrubbing, sweating, and wearing those rubber gloves to protect my fingernails. I’d much rather alphabetize my books by author’s last name and re-shelve them with the spines aligned. BUT I have to admit the spaces we have cleaned and organized so far, the living room and the kitchen, look great. My sink is sparkling. Take a look at the nitty-gritty I tackled yesterday.

I started with easy window washing. Here is Tyler concentrating hard on that Windex trigger.
After, I wiped down the sills.

And this is what I threw away.

Then I moved onto the fridge. This is what the coils looked like before.

This is what I emptied out of my vacuum. YUCK.

After, I moved on to the counter, the sink, the toaster oven, and my other small appliances. Here are a few of my clean after pictures. (Things were clutter-free, but dirty.)
I did a cabinet re-org a few months ago when I went through each cabinet, pulled out everything, separated those items I don’t use, don’t need, and don’t want, cleaned, and replaced only useful items I am positive I am going to use. Here is a box of stuff that has been exiled from my kitchen!

I really like multipurpose kitchen items. I use my Cuisinart for shredding blocks of cheese, slicing veggies for lasagna, pureeing soups, making pie dough (this method is soooo easy), and making bread dough. I don’t need 4 appliances cluttering my kitchen when I can use just one to do these different things.
I saved the other “side” of the kitchen and the floors for the weekend when I have another pair of adult eyeballs to watch the kids.
I love the results, but I hate the process. Do you find scrubbing, vacuuming, moping, dusting, and polishing therapeutic? What do you do to make your cleaning routine a little more fun?
Don’t forget to head over to SimpleMom.net to see more fabulous clean kitchens! Have a wonderful weekend.

Love your blog! Great job on the kitchen! I need to tackle the pots and pans today. I love my food processor, too. I couldn’t live without that and my Kitchen Aid mixer. I actually like the cleaning part; it makes me feel better to know that the yuck is gone. I should probably do it more often, though;)
Just visiting from the SCP 09. I didn’t even THINK of window sills! Yikes!
Ok, I need to clean my fridge coils and empty out my vacuum. Great job!
Your kitchen looks great! Your son is a cutie! I’m going to work on organizing the cupboards today. I did my pantry earlier. It just looks so much better. Amazing what organizing can do. Happy cleaning!
Such dirty pictures! LOL I love how you use child labor – I did too until they got too smart and realized it was work.
I do find cleaning to be therapeutic, especially the decluttering part. I love having more space and less gadgets…I used to have 2 and 3 of the same thing because I couldn’t find the first one! I was once obsessed with kitchen gadgets…my husband still is, and tries to buy them every time we are at target, but I hold him back
Looks great! I’m headed back in the kitchen today to declutter all the appliances. My blender just broke the other day so I’m considering replacing it with a food-processor, after reading your post I think it’s the way to go!
I’m also going to move a lot of our casserole dishes and appliances we don’t use very often downstairs in the basement! Ok… of to the kitchen, I think some coffee will motivate me!
