Spring Cleaning Bathrooms

springcleaning06-1

It is Spring Cleaning Party Day 6 at Simple Mom!

I started by cleaning my bathrooms, my least favorite room to clean. There are too many germ-y things that need time and attention. So, my bathrooms are usually not as neat and clean as they should be. As for clutter, I regularly purge this area of my home so I didn’t have much. I hate duplicate-half-full-bottles hanging around. Here below you can see the evidence, and then the clean beautiful master bath after.

We are cleanin’, we are cleanin’ (aka, making another toddler mess of water on the floor.)

The master bathroom was the worst!! Yikes!

Here are a few before and afters! This is the floor, and this is what I threw out. YUCK.

I have yet to tackle our one small linen closet. But I am taking the kids to the store today to purchase some bins to “organize” my stockpiled health and beauty items.  Bins are a great way to “simulate a drawer” because they allow you to pull them out and grab what you need easily from the back.  I also have a dry-erase board in my linen closet so I know what I have in my stockpile  and what I need to buy.

Finally, I have wonderful closet storage in the kid’s rooms so I keep their bed linen sets in their rooms tucked into a spare pillow case and labeled with a tag on a string safety-pined to the pillow case so I know what is inside.  Also, since everyone has a different sized bedding it makes grabbing the right size sheets a cinch!

What is your least favorite room to clean and why? Is it your huge living room with lots of upholstered items? Or is it your child’s room that has enough toys and clothing for a small preschool? Please leave a comment, I’d love to hear from you!

  • Faerylandmom, Don’t fret about being a “day behind” with your cleaning. Life gets in our way sometimes, and we can’t do all that we had planned. But just think, you are now a day ahead in life. :) Good luck with the rest of your spring cleaning when you come to it!

  • Rana, What a great idea! I think I’ll check out my local dollar store for storage bins too! Thanks for the tip.

  • Wow! What a difference in your before/after pictures. I’ll be tackling my bathroom today (I’m a day behind, partly because I have four kids, and partly because I started with the two hardest rooms…

I love your shelf above the toilet – it’s so pretty, and so me. :-)

  • My least favorite rooms to clean are my kid’s rooms! And not because of the toys, but because of the papers everywhere…I don’t know what is junk, what they need…so before I clean, they need to clean, and they don’t always listen so good ;)

I actually like cleaning the bathrooms because they are small and it seems like less effort for big impact. Your bathroom looks great!

  • Great job with the cleaning. I don’t like to clean my bathroom either. My husband when I can get him to do it alway gets down to the nitty gritty of it. I just gloss over it.

We went shopping for bins today to. The dollar store is a great place to get some of all different sizes for storage.

  • My least favorite times ten, though I will admit I’m more inspired to attack the bathroom than I was when I rose this morning. Thanks!

  • I have to agree that cleaning the bathroom is my least favorite room, although I get the most satisfaction from having done it! Great job on your cleaning, you can really see the difference in the before and after pictures. Here I go to clean my bathroom!

  • WOW! I love how completely candid you were with your pictures! I guess I should turn off the computer and get cleaning! What great pictures! I’ll be re-organizing our sheets today too I think! Thanks for all the great ideas!

  • I’m with you. Cleaning the bathrooms is my least favorite. As a result it usually gets put off for way too long. I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one who had a neglected bathroom. Great job cleaning up your bathrooms.
