There is definitely more to me than just organizing. Cake Decorating is one of my other loves!
I love decorating special occasion cakes. I love the technical baking and construction processes as well as the creative design and intricate decoration. I don’t eat much cake but my favorite recipes come from The Cake Bible by Rose Levy Beranbaum. I learned a lot about sugar work from Alan Dunn’s Exotic Sugar Flowers for Cakes
Here you can preview some of my work.
Some resources I love:
Beryls - she has EVERYTHING a cake decorator could want!
Sugar Craft - has a wonderful inventory for serious cake decorators.
DeDe Wilson- Her book Wedding Cakes you can Make is where I started. With her instruction, I constructed a 5 separated tier cake with piped icing and dragee decoration to serve 350 guests at MY wedding!
Baking 911 – virtually any baking question you have is answered here.
Wilton - this site has wonderful cake inspiration with printable directions!
Here is a fellow northern Virginia resident who loves cake decorating.
Peggy’s Marshmallow Fondant Recipe at What’s Cooking America - this is my favorite marshmallow fondant recipe. It comes out a little softer than the store-bought kind but it is super easy and cheap to make. (Instead of paying $19.99/5 lbs, this recipe costs me about $6/5lbs.)
Are you an aspiring cake decorator or are you already a pro? Are you trying out your first sculpted cake, or trying to lay fondant? Send me an e-mail (abbieipark at gmail dot com) and I may be able to help, or I might be able to point you to a better resource that will be able to answer you question. Please note, I might not be able to respond to you before you are finished with your project, but I make every effort to respond to each inquiry. Happy baking!
