I am about to embark upon a big paper project.

The Situation:
I live in a small, two-level town home with a finished basement. I have a wonderful office space in our finished basement but I don’t get to go down there much and there isn’t a file storage area on the first floor where I do most of my paperwork. I pay bills, blog, and do other paper work at my dining room table. So most of my paper never gets filed in the office and “lives” somewhere in piles along the path from my front door through the kitchen and out to the dining room. I have a messy, cluttered, un-organized paper mess. (Okay, this would never have been a situation before kids. Yes, kids have changed this obsessive organizer!)
Assess my space: How will I use it? What will I store in it?
What tools will help me create an organized space?
I plan to utilize a small space on my dining room wall to affix Ikea shoe storage bins that tip out that will hold file totes with organized papers inside.

I will show you pictures and share with you an overall review after the project is completed!
In the mean time, here are some other wonderful ideas from some great organizing blogs you might use to help you manage your paper clutter!

That is a good idea! I find having a defined workspace helps me keep on top of the paperwork, and helps me keep it contained. One day *sigh* we’ll actually create the appropriate play-space in the basement area. Do share when you decide to tackle your space!
I have a similar-sounding home and space. I want to keep the paper in the basement but it’s hard to get down there. My (eventual) goal is to have a workspace while the kids have a playspace in the next room. That should help, I think.
