My three wishes that would enhance my productivity:
1. Drive-thru Starbucks coffee fixes
2. A think-box that is quiet, well lit, and kiddie-proof for when I need to concentrate
3. 1 more hour in the day
I looked at this list and thought, “wow, I am just trying to exert some control over things that cannot be controlled.” I believe some of my “struggle to organize” is actually me trying to control my surroundings. While control over the number of objects I own may remind me to be humble, trying to control the things in life that are out of my control may make me crazy.
Maybe I should be wishing for the ability to change when my surroundings change. Perhaps productivity comes to those who are able to adapt, absorb, evolve, reinvent, and fly by the seat of their pants with unsurpassed expertise. By accepting that which I can’t change, maybe I will be able to be more productive in the real world.
Do you feel you are productive?

“By accepting that which I can’t change, maybe I will be able to be more productive in the real world.” I believe that, you only have power over yourself no one else. If you can keep that in mind and just get past or let go of what you can’t control (Which I have a hard time doing.) You can be productive and get things done.
Amanda, I was actually thinking of this prayer as I was writing this article…great minds think alike.
As I was reading your post, I was reminded of a plaque my mom used to have on her wall. It had the Serenity Prayer engraved on it.
“God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.”
I always liked this prayer because if we can really learn to live by it, it can make our lives less stressful and more fulfilling.
